NANA has confirmed that yet another application by a Euro Garages outlet for an all products lotteries outlet close to an existing Newsagency has been withdrawn. The original application was only conditionally approved as an ISI only outlet and the Euro Garages service station decided there was no point proceeding as an ISI only outlet.
NANA became involved in the matter shortly after the Newsagency was advised that the application from Euro Garages was being considered.
The approach taken by NANA in conjunction with its Member Newsagency was to make a submission against the approval of an all lotteries products outlet based on facts, demographics of the area, existing outlets sales performance and overall zone performance. The likely inability of the Euro Garages to fully satisfy all of the usual criteria to support approval was also addressed.
NANA understands that any application for a new all products lotteries outlet close to an existing Newsagency is likely to give rise to an emotional response. NANA has repeatedly demonstrated that the only way to successfully deal with these attacks on existing Newsagencies and lotteries outlets is to make submissions to the franchisor based on facts, the stated approval criteria and what is going on with lotteries sales in the local area.
In this instance, once the conditional approval of the new outlet was restricted to an ISI only outlet, the applicant withdrew.
These results are not achieved overnight. NANA allocates substantial resources and expertise to support Members faced by these challenges to their businesses.
Any NANA Member who receives a notification of an application for a new lotteries outlet close to their shop is advised to contact NANA before they respond. Contact NANA on 1300 113 044 or by email to nana@nana.com.au.
